Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling's Unique Approach to Parenting: No Social Media or Smartphones for Their Daughters
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling, one of Hollywood’s most famous couples, have taken a different route in raising their daughters, Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, 8. Despite their celebrity status, Mendes and Gosling are determined to provide their children with a grounded upbringing, free from the distractions and pressures of social media and smartphones.
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Mendes opened up about why their daughters are being raised without access to the internet or mobile devices. Comparing it to allowing a child to wander the streets at night, she explained, “Putting my kid on the internet and being like, ‘Oh, search something,’ that to me is equivalent to telling her, ‘Oh, just go down the street in the middle of the night. You’ll be fine.’”
Conscious Parenting and Anxiety
Mendes, who shares both daughters with her partner, emphasized that her parenting style is based on “conscious parenting,” a philosophy that focuses on building strong relationships with her children rather than adhering strictly to societal norms. She admits that she deals with anxiety as a parent and worries about passing it on to her children. "I see myself passing it on to my children," she said, reflecting on how subconscious fears may impact their development.
Additionally, Mendes makes a point of not discussing topics like body insecurities or aging around her daughters, urging her sisters to do the same. She recognizes that as her daughters grow older, she won’t be able to control the external influences, but for now, she’s focused on creating a positive environment at home.
Moving Away from Hollywood’s Spotlight
The couple has taken steps to protect their children from the often intense scrutiny of celebrity life. They reportedly relocated from Los Angeles to provide their daughters with a more private upbringing, away from the constant presence of other celebrity children. A source told People magazine, “They left L.A. to live a bit further north, away from Hollywood. They didn’t want the girls to grow up around other celebrity kids.”
While Ryan Gosling continues his successful acting career, Mendes famously stepped back from the spotlight nearly a decade ago to focus on raising their children. In her interview, she candidly spoke about her feelings toward her acting career, revealing that while she had moments of working with “great people,” acting was never her true passion.
Family Comes First
For both Mendes and Gosling, their daughters take precedence over everything. “For them, the most important job is their girls. Everything else comes second,” noted the People source. Their commitment to keeping their family life private and grounded stands out in an industry that often thrives on public exposure.
As for Mendes' future in acting, she remains uncertain. In a recent appearance on Good Morning America, she reflected on her career, saying, "It was such a high point working with Ryan, and I kind of felt like I did it." Whether she returns to the screen or not, her focus remains on being a devoted mother and creating a positive environment for her daughters, away from the pressures of Hollywood and digital culture.
